REGULATIONS
OF THE ACADEMIC SUPPORT CENTER AT LODZ UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY

 

Chapter I 
General Provisions

§ 1


1.    The Academic Support Centre of Lodz University of Technology (hereinafter referred to as the "Centre") provides free psychological support to students, doctoral students, and employees of Lodz University of Technology (hereinafter referred to as "TUL"), particularly to individuals with disability certificates or equivalent documents.
2.    Psychological support is provided in the form of:
a.    Psychological consultations,
b.    Psychological counselling,
c.    Psychoeducational workshops,
d.    Support groups,
e.    Other forms of support depending on the availability of specialists.
3.    Psychological support is offered by professionally educated psychologists with adequate competences.

 

§ 2


1.    The Centre is located in the premises of the Office for Students with Disabilities of TUL, at 116 Żeromskiego Street, Łódź (building A 30).
2.    The work of the Centre is supervised by the Head of the Office for Students with Disabilities of TUL.
3.    Psychological support is provided on-site on TUL campus. In justified situations the support can be provided in other locations or remotely.
4.    Psychological support is offered in the form of individual consultations lasting 40 - 50 minutes.

 

§ 3
 

The objectives of the Centre are the following:
1.    To provide psychological support to the TUL community seeking psychological support, especially to individuals with disabilities;
2.    To support the learning process of TUL students who request for such support;
3.    To provide advisory support in adapting the educational process to the students’ needs resulting from disabilities, chronic illnesses, and mental health disorders (psychological opinions, educational guidelines);
4.    To create conditions for quick response to psychological difficulties of individuals using the Centre’s support;
5.    To conduct psychoeducational and psychoprophylactic activities (e.g., in the area of finding new ways to cope with stress, behavioural, relational, communication, and motivational difficulties);
6.    To strengthen the resources (strengths) of the person seeking psychological help and/or to support that person on their path to development;
7.    To provide psychological consultations for foreign students, doctoral students, and employees of TUL (depending on the availability of specialists);
8.    To indicate further support options outside the Academic Support Centre of TUL (career counselling, psychotherapy, mental health clinic, etc.).

 

§ 4
 

1.    The regulations of the Academic Support Centre of TUL apply to the employees of the Office for Students with Disabilities, individuals cooperating with the Centre (psychologists, addiction therapists, volunteers, interns, trainees), and individuals using psychological support).
2.    The Head of the Office for Students with Disabilities supervises compliance with these regulations.

 

Chapter II
Organization of the Centre’s Activities

§ 5


1.    The Academic Support Centre provides psychological support according to the current work schedule, established by the head of the Office for Students with Disabilities of TUL and made available at the Office for Students with Disabilities of TUL and in the online registration system.
2.    Individuals using psychological support have access to the Centre’s services only during the hours specified in the schedule. In exceptional cases, the decision to provide psychological support at other times is taken by the head of the Office for Students with Disabilities of TUL.


§ 6
 

1.    Psychological consultations can be accessed after prior registration, i.e., setting the date and time of the meeting in one of the following ways:

  • via the online registration system;
  • by phone, at 42 631 38 87 or 42 631 28 87 (during office hours);
  • in person at the Office for Students with Disabilities of TUL, building A30 (during office hours).

2.    Before receiving psychological support, the person registering for the visit:

  • fills out a registration form,
  • signs a statement of having read the Regulations of the Academic Support Centre and consenting to psychological support,
  • signs a statement of consent to the processing of personal data solely for purposes related to the provided psychological support.

Chapter III
Rules for Providing Psychological Support

§ 7


1.    Psychological support at the Centre is provided in accordance with the Ethical Code of Psychological Support.
2.    The Centre’s employees and the Office for Students with Disabilities of TUL act in the interest of mental health of the person receiving support and, if necessary, provide that person with all necessary information about psychological support facilities.
3.    All data and information obtained in connection with the provided psychological support and related documentation are subject to professional secrecy.
4.    The Centre does not provide information to the authorities and employees of TUL about individuals using psychological support without their written consent.
5.    In the event of knowledge of a direct threat to the life or health of the person receiving psychological support, the Centre’s employees inform the appropriate institutions.

 

§ 8


1.    Each person seeking psychological support has the opportunity to participate in 8 individual consultations with a psychologist in one study cycle unless the specialist decides otherwise.
2.    The person receiving support registers for consultations with only one psychologist and is consulted by that psychologist throughout the whole cycle. Changes in this regard are possible only in exceptional situations.
3.    The employees of the Academic Support Centre of TUL reserve the right to cancel a person's appointment with a psychologist if that person registers:
a.    For more than one consultation within two weeks,
b.    For meetings with more than one psychologist,
c.    For a meeting with a different psychologist than the one they have been guided by.
4.    A person who does not show up for a scheduled appointment without having cancelled their meeting in advance is marked as absent, and after two no-shows, the person loses the right to use the services of the psychologists of the Academic Support Centre of TUL until the end of the current academic year. Exceptions to this rule are possible.
5.    It is possible to cancel a scheduled appointment with a psychologist at least 24 hours before the appointment via the reservation system. Late cancellations can be made by phone or in-person. Yet they still may result in being marked as absent.
6.    In case of a person’s being late for a consultation, the psychologist decides whether the consultation can take place in a shorter time frame. The psychologist reserves the right not to accept the person for the consultation in such a situation.


§ 9


1.    As part of meetings with a psychologist at the Academic Support Centre of TUL, a student has the right to obtain a written opinion regarding the adaptation of educational conditions to individual needs resulting from their health condition.
2.    The basis for issuing of the opinion is a disability certificate or a current medical certificate confirming the reported health condition.
3.    The need to obtain an opinion valid for the current academic semester must be declared within the first 30 days from the start of classes in the given semester, and in case of obtaining a certificate or diagnosis during the semester – no later than 14 days from the date of the certificate issuance.
4.    The opinion is issued after a consultation with a psychologist. The consultation must be scheduled in accordance with the procedures specified in § 6 of the Regulations. Relevant documentation must be provided at the meeting.
5.    The opinion will be issued within 3 weeks from the date of the consultation.

 

§ 10

 

1.    As part of meetings with a psychologist at the Academic Support Centre of TUL, we do not conduct psychotherapy or specialized psychological diagnostics. Psychological support will not be provided to:
•    A person under the influence of alcohol or other psychoactive substances, as well as someone who is threatening, aggressive, and poses a safety risk to individuals at the Centre,
•    A person who does not follow the established recommendations.
2.    All disputes and possibilities for exceptions to the provisions of these Regulations are resolved by the Head of the Office for Students with Disabilities of TUL upon written request from the person receiving support.
